Recreation

Wheeler Wildlife Refuge was established on July 7, 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. Its great diversity of habitat includes deep river channels, tributary creeks, tupelo swamps, open backwater embankments, bottomland hardwoods, pine uplands, and agricultural fields. We love to walk the trails and explore on the refuge.

Jack Allen Recreational Park quickly became recognized as one of the best soccer facilities in the Southeast. At the complex you will find multiple amenities including a playground, ten international sized fields, a disc golf course and much more!
