Growing up in Etowah County, Christmas at the Falls has been a holiday tradition for most of my life – even during my college years. This year with it being my son Oliver’s first Christmas, we knew we had to make the hour and a half drive to Noccalula Falls in Gadsden to continue the tradition.

What to Expect at Christmas at the Falls

When pulling up at Christmas at the Falls, you’ll instantly be greeted with multi-colored lights as far as the eye can see. Guests of all ages will love the displays that feature a gum-drop forest, zoo animals, flowers, icicle branches and more. In addition to the lights, visitors can hop on the miniature train ride through the park, enjoy a synchronized light show set to music, and a visit with Santa.

This year, the park has also partnered with area vendors to bring hot cocoa, kettle corn, fudge, and other holiday treats and gifts to Christmas at the Falls. Be sure to bring cash, as some of the vendors did not have card readers.

The lights feature colorful displays with themes that include zoo animals, flowers, and more.

Activities to Enjoy at Christmas at the Falls

If you’ve ever wanted to embrace your inner Buddy the Elf, you have the chance to go through the seven levels of the candy cane forrest on your way to see Santa. Towards the back of the park (past a candy decorated section of trees) Jolly old Saint Nick has taken up residence in the replica pioneer post office for the season. Have your phone charged and ready, Santa’s shop is decorated with lit presents and a tree that make the perfect backdrop for pictures. Santa will be on site until December 23.

Continuing the holiday magic, you can hop aboard the park’s very own Polar Express with their miniature train ride through the park. The ride is included with admission, but a fast pass can be purchased for an extra fee to skip the line on busier nights. Although on the smaller side, the cars seat two adults and toddlers can ride in their parent’s lap.

Another can’t miss section of Christmas at the Falls is the light show. Under a covered bridge over a small pond, a series of arches and Christmas trees light up in tune with various holiday songs. The covered bridge also makes a great photo spot.

Guests can also stop by the fire pit area to warm up or shop local and regional vendors during their visit.
