A short drive west along U.S. 72 to Killen, AL is the Frankenville Family Fun Park, inside the Killen Time park. Families looking for a night of kid-friendly, Halloween-themed fun will enjoy the special spooks in store at this attraction.

We participated in nearly all of the 10 activities available on opening night, but there’s actually more to do than we experienced. Due to heavy rain earlier in the week, some games and attractions were closed, regardless of this, our crew of four kids and three adults had an amazing evening.

Our group included kids aged 3 – 9 and none of them found anything to be too scary. It was hard for us to find a “favorite” activity because the kids truly had a great experience with everything. The corn maze offered multiple routes, paining pumpkins allowed the kids to bring home a memento of the night, the Halloween Hoedown gave us a chance to get the wiggles out, the bounce castle and slides were popular, and the foam dart wars let us all run around like we were on a secret mission. Each attraction has a designated person to answer questions and collect tickets.

What to Expect from Your Visit to Frankenville

The park is organized around a giant haunted house that plays spooky visual effects on it throughout the night. Sometimes there are spiders on the house, animals, ghosts, etc. While the kids were playing in an attraction, the adults had a great time watching the changes on the house. This is where the mascot dance party show is located, but due to excessive rain earlier in the week, the show didn’t happen.

One highlight that’s not a ticketed attraction is meeting Franky, the giant Frankenstein mascot. He walked around the park and met with guests throughout the evening, and the kids loved giving him hugs and high fives each encounter. Franky is always up for pictures too.

Admission and Extras

Each attraction cost tickets and each ticket is worth $1. Tickets are available at the entrance and a kiosk in the park. Tickets can also be exchanged for toys, but it’s the same kind of goodies found at roller rinks, arcades and similar places, so your money is better used to play instead of exchanging tickets for toys. Here’s a breakdown of how many tickets each attraction requires:

  • Corn maze: 2
  • Paint Pumpkins: (Styrofoam pumpkin is 3 tickets, real pumpkin is 5 tickets)
  • Mine coaster: 3
  • Black light mini golf: 3
  • Story walkthrough: 3
  • Foam Darts: 2
  • Ghost Ship: 2
  • Bounce house: 3 tickets for 10 minutes
  • Spin art: 2
  • Halloween Hoedown: 2 tickets for a 10 minute show

Some attractions were unavailable at the time of our visit, so this is not a complete list.

Know Before You Go (Parent Tips)

The park is located on U.S. 72 in the Killen Time entertainment park, and next to the Arx Mortis Haunted House (not for kids). The ticket counter and line is for both Arx Mortis and Frankenville. At the counter say you want Frankenville tickets. There are two bathrooms, a port-a-potty out front (by the parking lot) and another in the back of the park. The one in the back is cleaner and better for kids.
