If you live in Alabama in the summertime and have kids, it’s important to have water options! This Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) is a multi-use playground for children of all abilities in Hartselle and surrounding areas.
SNAP Splashpad
There’s a colorful splash pad located at SNAP Playground in Hartselle – and it’s wheelchair accessible. This free city splashpad has about a dozen water features including bubbling geysers, water guns, dumping buckets, sprinklers, and a roll arch.
There is a large pavilion with several picnic tables and ceiling fans located right beside the splash pad, which provides a shady spot to sit and still be able to watch your kids. There are also boys and girls bathrooms and a water fountain in the pavilion. We packed a lunch and brought some buckets and water toys. If you prefer to sit in the sun, there are three nice picnic tables in the grass beside the splash pad.
The fountains cut themselves off to conserve water but are easy to turn back on again–just wave your hand in front of the sensor or push the button on a water gun.
SNAP Playground
Adjacent to the splash pad is the special needs accessible playground (SNAP) that includes swings, a large glider with a ramp, and a merry-go-round that are all handicap accessible. There is a soft foam mat on the ground of the playground. Everything here is free, and there is plenty of parking in the large parking lot located right in front of the playground, including several handicap parking spaces.
The park is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Spring and Summer. On Tuesdays during the summer, the Civic Center hosts a themed party and kids can enjoy refreshments and a small gift, free of charge. Each year, the City has added more features to this park, and there is more to come.
