Carnegie Carnival Rolls Out Family Fun
If you’re looking for some family-friendly Mardi Gras fun this weekend, the annual Carnegie Carnival will be returning to downtown Decatur on Saturday, February 13. Families of all ages can find something to do whether it be the drive-thru parade, rock scavenger hunt, the 13.1 mile Carnival race, a canine costume contest and dog walk, or live performance line ups.
Run Straight to the Fun with the Carnival Frolic
The festivities kick off at 7 a.m. with the Carnival Frolic. This 13.1 mile race winds through the historic districts, along the Tennessee River and through Point Mallard Park. A virtual option is also available to those that would prefer to social distance and friends can team up to run 5K portions of the race instead of the entire distance. Registration should be completed ahead of the race here.
Go on a Rockin’ Scavenger Hunt
Bring the kids for an exciting rock scavenger hunt along 2nd Avenue. Starting at 10 a.m. families can collect a bag and directions under the awning of the Princess Theatre. Children can then follow the clues and hunt for rocks along 2nd Avenue for a chance to win prizes. All prizes will be announced on Facebook live at 12:15 p.m. and families can take advantage of lunch specials at local downtown restaurants. Check out more details here.
Have a Doggone Good Time During Carnival Canines on Parade
If a stroll is more your speed, be sure to check out the Carnival Canines on Parade at 11 a.m. Register your pups for a costume contest and dog walk ahead of the event and enjoy time to socialize with others at a safe distance. Be sure to vote for your favorite costumed pup on Facebook. All money raised will benefit the Morgan County Humane Society.
Dance Over for a Lunch Break
Enjoy family-friendly live performances at The Brick Deli. Take a break from the festivities to grab some food while enjoying some live Mardi Gras music. Check out the full line-up here.
Enjoy a Socially Distance Drive-Thru Parade
Featuring lights, music and stationary parade floats, families can end the day with a drive-thru parade. The first 500 cars to enter the parade drive-thru route will receive a bag of candy and can enjoy a line up of family fun. The parade can be entered at Church Street and will begin at 6 p.m. View a complete Carnival Parade route and learn more here.
