Have you ever watched the show Wipeout and thought, “I can do that!”? You can find out how skilled you really are by visiting the Slippery Summit Aqua Park in Cullman, Alabama. You can “run, climb, jump, swing, and slide” to “conquer the summit” on this inflatable obstacle course. You can also wobble, crawl, flop, roll, slip, and look as ungraceful as humanly possible. That’s what this mom did. I lasted only twelve minutes before deciding that conquering even the flat areas, let alone any summit, was not for me. I found amusement on the shore by watching others, especially my husband, wipe out and fall into the pond.
My 10-year-old and my husband had a blast, though, and so did others out on the course that day. If your family is up for challenge and fun on the water, it’s a unique experience you don’t want to miss.
What to Expect at Slippery Summit Aqua Park
The park is located within the Palomino RV Resort in Cullman and operates Memorial Day through Labor Day. During the summer, they are open Friday-Sunday. Starting in August they’ll only be open Saturdays and Sundays. Sessions are one hour long and available at 10am, 11am, noon, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. The cost is $15 per person ($10 for campers). There are only 40 slots available per hour, so I recommend making a reservation by booking online.
The course is open to anyone six years or older. A waiver is required for each participant. You can submit these online or in person. Children aren’t required to have a grownup with them on the course, so parents can hang back on the shore (payment is only required for those using the course). There are two lifeguards on the course at all times and life jackets are mandatory and provided by the park.
There are bathrooms and showers on site. There are two indoor showers that have plenty of room for changing and hooks to hang your items. There are also two outdoor shower nozzles. There is a family bathroom that is wheelchair accessible, but no changing table is available.
Parking is plentiful and adjacent to the park. Getting to and from the parking lot is convenient, so we left our personal belongings in the car.
For the Younger Family Members
If you are bringing younger children with you, they won’t be completely left out of the fun. Anyone in your group can swim in the shallow water near the shore. There is a small beach, so toss in some sand toys along with your towels and sunscreen. There is also plenty of room for kids to run around or play ball on the grass. Families are welcome to spend some additional time at the park on the grass or beach or in the water before or after their sessions.
What to Pack
The park does not sell food or drink, so make sure you at least bring water. Coolers are permitted. There are also restaurants within five minutes of the park. My family ate at The Stash House after our park session. They have a children’s menu with several options and different pies and cakes for $3 per slice. Outdoor seating is available.
There is minimal shade at the park and most of the picnic tables are in full sun, but you are permitted to bring your own chairs, umbrellas, and canopy tents.

She is a former outdoor environmental educator who enjoys walking in the woods, splashing in creeks, and searching for insects, snakes, and other critters. When at home, she spends more time outside than in, especially in her pool or on her back porch where she can keep an eye on her bird feeders and her gardening fails. She and her husband moved to the Madison area 18 years ago after meeting at the University of Alabama. They, along with their 9-year-old son Luke and 13-year-old German Shepherd mix Anni, moved into Madison City proper in 2020. What Heather likes most about the area is the overall kid friendliness, the schools, and the abundance of natural and other green spaces. When she’s inside, she can be found cooking, reading nonfiction, daydreaming about international travel, and watching broody, British detective shows.
